In this mixed media piece, I designed a visual timeline of consumerism and its impact on the earth. The average human lifestyle, devoted to accumulation, has trashed the planet and devastated much of its natural resources. In the top right corner, I have included light and airy colors that reflect nature in its purest state, signified by the breadth of green landscapes and blue water. However, as you work your way down the composition, slowly you begin to see the effects of a society addicted to disposable goods. Resultantly, the color palette shifts toward darkness with inserted images of dirty streets and accumulated waste. Today’s people ignore the fact that their increased reliance on automobiles, fertilizer, plastic and cheaply produced goods is directly and negatively affecting climate change.
